Love and Basketball~ Stephanie Bailey

Are You On a Winning Team?....

Relationships are similar to basketball: when the relationship is moving in the right direction, the ball is being dribbled and passed back-and-forth between you and your significant other. When you’re going on dates and spending time together, shots are being made. And of course, a two-pointer occurs when special things are done for each other—i.e. flowers “just because,” giving small gifts of appreciation, etc. A three-pointer is when you have great chemistry and there is an unbroken consistency in the relationship causing huge excitement. And, when you have great sexual connection—a slam-dunk!

Just like basketball (and love), one minute things seem like they are going great (a sure win!) until all of sudden there’s a technical foul (a hiccup in the relationship), leaving you on the brink of a time-out. When someone is dissatisfied in a relationship—due to something you said or did—then the ball is turned over; you’ve loss possession and no longer have any control (Yikes!). When your significant other is holding the ball; they have the upper-hand. Usually if you try and press them, forcing the issues or stealing the ball, it can cause them to retreat.

When the ball is in someone’s court, you can’t take it back. It’s better to give your significant other timeout space. If you are important to this person and they want to be with you, they won’t hold the ball for very long. The ball will be passed back to you and more shots will be made. But, if they decide to keep hold of the ball, Game Over…find a new playmate!
